Documenting: Adventures of the Living Opals, no. 1

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, this is very fittingly, my first exhibition of the Living Opals. I am trying to make a collection, but they do prove difficult to capture. Her name is Sugar Power. Her favourite date of the year (aside from her birthday, i’m pretty sure) is Friday 13th. 13 is her favourite number..i think i may have come to agree. And here we will talk, unabashedly, on why i love her and give a rough outline of all her glories.

She is a woman of words, of intellect, of ridiculous beauty, of great imagination, and the day I met her my mind went wild with its very first inspiration. She’s exciting and enticing, and none of these adjectives hold hyberbole – they can’t begin to describe the soul of Sugar. She has a leather studded inner punk child with a very humble, sensitive, gracious heart. I can vouch that this human being is just as much of a reflection of the beauty in her work, she is a worldly and hilarious creature. Her perspective on life is so heartfelt, so in love with what she does, and very honest. She’s like a virgo child, but says fuck and likes licquor. haha. I feel SO lucky that our worlds have crashed together in some magical course of events. It’s so bizarre.

Her work pulls me very much, with it’s seemingly playful and sweet tasting crazy wholeheartedness. The poetry, her words, are like rumi and e.e cummings but with a taste of fairybread and the sounds of hummingbirds (buzzing slightly in the background of your head). If they don’t make my heart swell, i am reduced to the silliest of girlish giggles. Her sense of humour is fucking epic, may i add. Last time we were in a convenience shop and this very bored boy was selling us a bottle of very cheap wine, and had to check with the manager and bleated ‘alcohol’, she approved (just to check, as he was probably young or something. some rule.) He severely looked like he was dying of the Mundane, there & then, it was very nearly a tragic loss of life. oh, what am i like. but then Sugar just gave him the best face ever, with her wonderful marvelling eyes to his, and cried:
“Licquor, Baby!!” in her brilliant canadian accent. I can’t quite remember his reaction, but I think on the inside his world flipped out for a small second. oh. ahaha
hope is a town with so much potential but, then again, i am a sucker for names names like juniper, colossus, frenzy now you might think those are terrible names but what about niacin thiamine and riboflavin my three boys
To gain a taste of this wonder, please venture to play around in the Lint Museum
(lint is the small things you find in your pockets, hence this is known as the museum of little things, like the little flints and beautiful pieces of living, and shows her collage and illustrations)
read her diary, go on. hehehe

Sugar Power is an award winning illustrator, yet also dabbles in prop styling maintenant..and i know for an absolute fact that this coming year will be amazing and looks super super promising!! Very very exciting. ‘watch this space’ type of exciting ahhaha.

ALSO collaborating with Helen Macintyre this month, i believe. Check her out, if you can. Charmed. Some of it reminds me of Vivienne Westwood’s campaigns. mmm.

But yes. this is my first show of a Living Opal. Perhaps i will be able to interview this wonder for you in the future, who knows? a round of applause for the dazzling Sugar Power! HERE HERE!!!

you see, LOVE!
i find this fantastic!!
thank you!! =)
